Football Player Code of Conduct

I hereby understand and agree to the following:

  • I will abide by the rules, guidelines and policies as set forth by Northville Youth Football Association (NYFA) and applicable league rules as set forth by the Southeast Michigan Youth Football Association (SMYFA).

  • I understand that football is a team sport.

  • It is my responsibility to be a contributing /responsible team member by:

    • I will learn the official rules of football by which we play.

    • Attending ALL practices and arriving on time;

    • Doing well in school academically;

    • Giving 100% and participating to the best of my ability during games and practices;

    • Showing loyalty and dedication to my team;

    • Understanding that every football position and every play is important to the success of the team;

    • Understanding that I may not play my favorite position, but that may be what is best for the team.

    • I will be responsible for caring for the football equipment issued to me.

    • I will always bring all of my football equipment to practice and games unless instructed otherwise by the coach.

  • I will avoid all unnecessary “fooling around” and unsafe behavior at practices and on the sidelines during games.

  • I will show respect for my coaches, teammates, football players, cheerleaders, officials, my opponents, NYFA volunteers, and myself at all times.
  • I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, fellow teammate, cheerleader, opponent, NYFA volunteer, spectator or parent; such as booing, taunting and refusing to shake hands.

  • I will not use profanity, abusive language or obscene gestures.

  • I will refrain from fighting with any person. Fighting will NOT be tolerated.

I agree and understand that if I fail to abide by the above rules and guidelines, or engage in any other conduct that my coach or the NYFA Board deems to be detrimental to my team or the organization, I will be subject to disciplinary action, which could include, but is not limited to the following:

  • Verbal warning by the coach, official, Director of Football and/or President of the NYFA;

  • Player game or games suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file with the NYFA Board;

  • Player season suspension (full or part) as determined by the NYFA Board; and/or

  • Loss of family veteran status for the following year’s registration; and/or
  • Expulsion from the organization as determined by the NYFA Board.
