October 1, 2017: Braves (27) at Stallions (21)

The Northville Stallions had their best 2nd half defensive effort of the year, but ultimately came up short 27-21 to the Walled Lake Braves. The Stallions found themselves down early again 6-0 but answered in the 2nd quarter on a 5-yard TD run by Erik Brown to take a 7-6 lead. The Braves responded with a long TD drive and the Stallions answered back quickly with a 5-yd TD run by Drew Meussner to make score 13-13. Late in the first half, the Braves dug deep into the playbook and pulled off of a double reverse flee-flicker including the 2-point conversion to take a 21-13 lead. Coach Toomey lit a fire under the Stallions at halftime and the team came out strong in the 2nd half. Erik Brown scored his 2nd TD of the game, a 10-yd scamper and the Collin Dowling to Zach Slagle air assault converted on the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 21-21. The defense stood tall in the 2nd half, with Meussner, Slagle and Brody Domeracki leading the flag pulling frenzy to stymie the Braves offense. Late in the 5th quarter, the Gray defense made a huge goal line stand, with Drew Bandilla and Charlie Stoops stopping the Braves on 4th down and 5 to hold the lead. In the end, the Braves used an 8 minute drive in the 6th quarter to take the lead, scoring on a 4th and 19 play with 1 second left to escape with a 27-21 victory. The Stallions showed a lot of toughness and fight and look to build on the momentum next week against the Novi Bobcats.
