The Varsity Colts hosted the Commerce Chargers on a beautiful day for football.  Fans showed up to cheer on both teams and

The starting defense started off hot with tackles by Christopher Ash, Michael Beno, Ethan Ceccarini, and Matthew Shiffman.  Led by quarterback Ash, the Colts scored on the first series after carries by Jackson DeFore and Cole Boring.  At fourth and goal, Boring scored the first touchdown off a short pass from Ash.  Gio Fortuna kicked the extra points for an early 8-0 lead.  The Colts took a quick turn on defense where Ceccarini sacked the Chargers quarterback and Nick Spaude had impressive tackling.  The Colts added another eight points after a rushing touchdown by Fortuna and a good kick.  The next series was very exciting – Boring rushed the Chargers kick off returner securing great field position.  Thomas Cook and Max Ranka tackled Chargers for a loss, then Beno broke up a pass attempt.  Back on offense, the Colts were facing four and out.  DeFore handled a botched punt with grace and ran for a long run but was just short of a first down.  On the next play, Ash made an excellent read for a pick six!  The Colts ended the first half with excellent defense by Kage Dahring, Max Trussler, Mikey Mandjack, and Nick Spaude.

The Colts headed to the locker room at halftime with a 22-0 lead.  The second half was just as exciting with continued, strong defense and an unbelievable catch!  Ash, Spaude, and DeFore held the pressure on defense, but the Chargers scored a touchdown.  Boring blocked the extra point attempt for a score of 22-6.  Jackson DeFore scored the next two touchdowns –a 65-yard run off a short pass from Ash and a catch in the endzone under double coverage.  The Colts completed the game with solid defense:  Ricky Gonzalez sacked the Charger’s quarterback, Colin Milligan made key tackles, and Ceccarini forced a fumble recovered by Dahring that he ran in for a touchdown!  The Colts won 42-13 and enjoyed a sweet victory!
