The Walled Lake Braves beat the JV Stallions in a defensive battle at Tom Holzer Ford Field on Sun., Sept. 15.

The Stallions started out strong, securing a turnover on downs on the Braves’ first offensive drive with a tackle on fourth down by #1 Zane Ader. The turnover was converted to a touchdown by #98 Hunter Stokes, who plunged into the endzone on first and goal early in the second quarter. Stokes and #12 Dylan Young kept the drive alive, with Stokes rushing for three yards on a fourth and two, and Young rushing for about 29 yards on a second and seventeen. The Stallions missed the points-after, making the score 6-0.

Although the Stallions’ defense played tough, the Braves’ offense managed just enough to win the game. They scored a rushing touchdown on fourth and eleven with 35 seconds left in the first half but missed the extra point, making the score 6-6 at the half. Then, with 6:08 left in the game, they scored another rushing touchdown. They missed the extra point and finished with 13 points on the day.

Despite a few trips to the red zone, the Stallions did not score again. In addition, a fumble return for a touchdown by #5 Ryan Jaafar was negated by a Stallions’ penalty. After the Stallions’ last offensive drive ended in a turnover on downs, the Braves ran out the clock, leaving the final score 13-6.

In the first half development game, #27 Ryan Richardson and #3 Drew Bandilla had tackles and #11 Koen Raitz almost intercepted the ball before the Braves turned it over on downs. The Stallions then had a chance on offense, but were unable to score before time ran out.

In the second half development game,  #20 Nick Lundberg rushed for five yards and #6 Andrew Shukeireh rushed for three yards, but the drive stalled and the Stallions turned it over on downs. Once again, the Braves couldn’t move the ball against the Orange Crush defense. #75 Jakob Stuzin had a crushing tackle, followed by an incomplete pass that forced a turnover on downs. But time ran out before the Stallions could move the ball much.

Next up, it’s the Battle for the Shoe, as the Stallions take on the rival Colts on Sun., Sept. 22.
