Northville Stallions Varsity Football v Livonia Blue Jays
Game Day 9/7/19
Tom Holzer Field

The Northville Stallions season opener saw sunshine and 70 degrees to welcome the boys back to Tom Holzer field to battle the Livonia Blue Jays.  Weeks of preparation under the guidance of the Stallions coaching staff had the squad ready to go after Livonia’s opening drive was stifled by a tackle for loss in the backfield by Luke Parrinello. A blocked punt by the Stallions defensive line gave Northville their first offensive possession with excellent field position. Despite a quick turnover on downs the Stallions offensive took the field again after an interception by Nick Helner put the home team in scoring territory. The 2nd play from scrimmage saw Jaden Pydyn sprint to the end zone for the opening touchdown. Extra point conversion by Lucas Heinen notched the score 8-0.

The Black and Orange then took advantage of a successful onside kick recovery to watch Evan Deak catch and carry the ball on successive play calls to put our boys in scoring territory again. A 2 yard run up the middle by Jaden Pydyn and another extra point conversion expanded the the lead to 16-0.  The Blue Jays next play from scrimmage met with hard tackle by Caden Besco to force a fumble and in quick order Isaac Pace scampered for 31 yards on the next offensive play on a Quarterback keeper.

The first Blue Jays drive of 2nd quarter ended in another punt after a tackle for no gain by Cooper Hoffman.  More stout defense by Northville saw Aiden Konieczny break through the Livonia line for another tackle for loss on the next defensive stand followed by Nick Helner on a run across the field to drop the hammer on the Livonia running back to force another Blue jay punt.

The Stallions next offensive series saw a fourth down and 6 situation kept alive by Evan Deak on a jet sweep to keep drive going followed by a 17 yard roll out pass snatched by Christian Freydl. The drive was capped with another Stallion touchdown to run the halftime score to 23-0.

Livonia’s opening drive 2nd half ended in another turnover on downs after tackle for loss by Jonathan Edison Jr.  Maintaining possession and killing the clock was the name of the game for the Black and Orange in the second half.  Quarterback Will Clauson broke loose for a 25 scramble up the left side and successive runs up the middle by Connor Vissotski kept our offense on the field for the majority of the second half.  A first down grab by Micah Lavigne on offense followed by gang tackling on the Stallions next defensive series saw the clock expire with a final score of 23-0. After the game Head Coach Rob Ross noted “Our goal this year is to be a physical team and the Blue Jays coaching staff congratulated our team on its physical play.” The Stallions look to keep a clean sheet as the coaching staff prepares the team for its next opponent the Walled Lake Braves…. Go Stallions!
